This is a game for ATARI ST mono emulators. It is made with GFA-BASIC
and GBE. It is not tested on a real machine and it is possible, that
it can't be run on it. You can try to run ROMANS.PRG or ROMANS.GFA
in a GFA BASIC interpreter. ROMANS.PRG runs with the emulator hatari
1.8.0 and its built-in EmuTOS-image (https://hatari.tuxfamily.org/download.html).
GFA BASIC was chosen as programming language to write a program compatible
to EmuTOS. The game can also be run with hataroid and its built-in
EmuTOS-image. hataroid is available for Android devices.
The .LST file was written with the Windows X editor and merged and
compiled with the programs coming with GBE. GBE ran with the operating
system FreeMint 1.19 and the emulator ARAnyM 1.1.0 and the result was
tested with the ATARI emulator hatari 1.8.0.

The idea for this game is from 1997. The created BASIC source couldn't be
run and the task was given up. Then GALAXY for the ATARI ST mono was
developed and GALAXY was the first game released.
Two groups of Roman soldiers fight against each other. Two players
send commands to them until the whole other group is eliminated.
The first player attacks with the soldiers encoded with the numbers
1, 2 and 3. The first type of soldier wins a fight, if a random generator
generates the number 6 for him and a number less than 6 for the attacked
soldier. Every soldier can attack fields next to him, but the soldiers
encoded with the number 2 can attack the fields next to the fields next
to him. The soldiers encoded with the number 3 are strong soldiers, who
get added the number one, if the random generator generates a number.
The soldiers of the second player behave like the soldiers of the first
player: a soldier encoded with the number 4 behaves like a soldier encoded
with the number 1, a soldier encoded with the number 5 behaves like a soldier
encoded with the number 2 and a soldier encoded with the number 6 behaves
like a soldier encoded with the number 3. If a soldier occupies a grey
field, he gets another bonus point in the random generator. There are
two modes. Every player moves or attacks with one soldier each round
in the round mode. If the wave mode is chosen, every player can use every
soldier he has got one time in every round. The round is over, if the
other player is chosen in the options dialog. The options dialog can
be opened with a click on an empty field. There you can choose, if you
want to move or attack. If you click on the MORE button, you can select,
that the other player can perform action. There is alsoa button for quitting
the whole game. If you select moving or attacking, this selections stays
active until you change it in the options menu. Select one of your soldiers
with the mouse and click on an empty field next to him, if you want to
move. Every moving soldier can only move to the fields next to him.
If you want to attack, select one of your soldiers and click on a field
with a soldier of the other player next to him.
